Blu Ray DVD

I finally bought a blu ray player in the shape of a Sony Ps3. It was a snap decision really after wandering around the retail park and stumbling across the special offer in Currys. Got it home and rigged it up - took a while I don't mind saying - and drew the curtains. I plugged in my only Blu Ray disc, Casino Royal, and hit the play button.

I should probably mention first that my TV is big plasma Pioneer job, real nice set that delivers - or at least has the potential to deliver, real impressive images. HD television can be utterly jaw-dropping. Blu ray indeed takes the experience a touch further. After marvelling at the sheer amount of detail in the picture, the vividness of colours, the silky blacks and shadows(I could insert a ton of technical jargon here regarding bitrate and such but I won't), I noticed the improved audio; dialogue was crisp and clear and never became smothered by the action, which in itself left me speechless. Casino Royal by all accounts is a very good disc, but if this is what Blu ray can produce then most home cinema fans will be rubbing their femurs with delight.

Since Casino Royal I've bought Spiderman 3, 300 and Black Hawk Down. In my opinion, all are impressive. 300 though has added grain in the picture but the audio more than makes up for the bitching I might have done about this. Anyway, good stuff.

This is Sparta!
